Lost a few fish this morning after a water change.
My tap water was the result of the distruction.
Here's the reslults for ammonia and nitrates...
    Ammonia - 1.5ish
    Nitrate - 5ish

    chloramines

My tap is like that too or at least I smelled the funny water about a month ago, I've been using my carbon bottle and amquel+plus and still doing 100% water change with no problems.

Would aging the water with prime help?

yeah, aging, heavy circulating and prime.

I can't say for sure out of my own experience about the prime since I don't use it and only use Amquel+plus.

Sorry to hear you lost fish. Our water is like that too. Some days it can go right in and others it will kill everything. Maybe even people... LOL...

Iv never used or thought of getting a carbon bottle, but i do use Prime. Its the best de-clorinator you can buy from the shelf. Iv used it for many years. We all run into " sudden " fish emergencies so having a bottle of prime as a back up shouldn't hurt.

I still use a half dose of Seachem Safe with my bottle just for insurance.

Oh man. I'm so glad your geos are ok!! I'm frikkin scared to do a water change right now. I feel like the old water in the tank is safer than what's comin out the tap! I usually double dose Amquel or Prime with my water changes.

Are your tap water parameters that bad?
