  • Vortech MP10 bearing replacement

I bought a used MP10 a couple of months ago that ended up needing new bearings. Did some investigating and found this link:

I bought two 6x15x5mm bearings (P/N SMR696C-YZZ #5 NB2 from Boca Bearings) and set to work. The link above is pretty self explanatory but the guy used a bearing press to get the bearings off since the bearings on these are press fit on the rotor assembly so getting them off is not easy.

In talking to a friend in bearing manufacturing, he said to put the rotor assembly in the freezer for a few hours and the bearings should come of much easier since the tolerance should be only about 0.001 on such a small part. That did the trick! So now my MP10 is much much quieter than when I got it and cost me about $25, which is better than having to buy a new dry side from Ecotech.

Hope this helps someone needing to do the same thing.

PS: the bearings I listed above are hybrids (with ceramic balls) and are doing very well.

If you get a wire EDM and waterjet, I might just have to squat at your place.

BTW, that link is based on a bearing replacement on a MP40 (for those who didn't catch that) but there's some info on how to work on the MP10 as well.

Or fix it. Or let you do the labor. I'll stick to designing and post processing. LOL

Not familiar with the Mazak stuff but I'm pretty sure Edgecam can output something that works with Mazaks.
