i was wondering if anyone ever used iodized salt in thier tangayika tanks. i was reading a article about how iodine is required for proper thyroid function, which regulates growth and development in fish. lmk if you have tried it and if you did what was the out come and how much of it did you use

use sodium chloride.... natural sea salt with no additives in replacement of "aquarium salt". rgonzales uses diamond salt meant for water softeners which is much cheaper, think that was the brand.
For "tangs", there's a buffer recipe to increase the pH as well as provide all the mineral and trace using reef salts700g Mini-Monster tank

I use a marine Iodide supplement for my shrimp tanks, but never added it to my Tang tanks. I suppose I could and give you a before and after opinion. Its a trivial amount used, like one drop per 5-10 gallons. In the land of the blind, the one-eyed man is king.

Interesting thread. Iv allways used the regular aquarium salt. But would have do some more reseach too see about other salts. As far as a plus to the fish yes! Iv noticed better color and more active behavior. And "so iv read" it helps to keep parasites and diseases down. While aiding in the protective slim coat as well.
As for the ph, yea thats a plus for these fish. They tend to do better in the hard water and show the nicer colors. I try to keep my ph up in the high range. Like pushing the 8.8 to 9.0 range.5 gal baby hecqui grow out

In HD i know they sell various lrg bags of salts, not sure whats in them exactly. But i know iv seem a few people and even a store use one of the bags as salt for their tank. If its sufficient and the chemical balance is ok then i know the price would be a lot better then the standard aq salts!5 gal baby hecqui grow out
