I keep planted freshwater tanks. I set up a third tank to run over the weekend so I could hopefully populate it next week sometime. I got some new substrate and despite repeated washingsit had some cloudiness issues. Nothing unexpected, but I am the impatient type. I remembered someone giving me a brand new bottle of clarifier so I decided "what the heck" and put the recommended dose into the tank. It is Kent Marine Pro-Clear. One would think the "marine" part of the name would have tipped me off... not so. I was reading the bottle last night and it says "do not use in freshwater". Well, too late for that! It contains de-ionized water and polyelectrolytes.Should I drain the water off and start with fresh RO, and do I need to rewash the substrate? Should I toss ALL of the filter media? I can't see much difference in this product and their freshwater one, except that this one can alter pH, which shouldn't be an issue since I can bring it back into balance before introducing livestock. All advice is very much appreciated! Thanks!

Okay, thanks for the advice! I'll just start anew. From what I can tell, this stuff would just bind with the alkaline substances in the water, but I'd much rather just start over. I'm using Turface Pro League with root tabs for the substrate.

What kind of substrate is it you are using?

Pray, too??? This sounds serious. :-P I really wish I'd read the side of the bottle. They should probably put it on the FRONT, since they sell a very similar freshwater product. How are oblivious people like me supposed to know not to use it? ;-) Off to rinse more substrate...
