  • Aqueon ColorMax color enhancing bulb

I got a 48" T8 fixture from JohnnyMisty at the last GHAC meeting to try out this bulb because I've been looking for something to enhance red in a couple of my tanks. This bulb is awesome on my Troph. sp. Red Moliro tank! Pops out the reds on the fish and brightens up the petrified wood I have. I proceeded to put it over all my tanks and I must say I like how it made the tanks look. I still had to have my LEDs on because the ColorMax bulb is not enough to really light up a tank; it just emphasizes the reds very nicely and in a subtle way. Definitely something I'm thinking to add to all my tanks, or at least the ones with "red" fish in it.

    Indeed it does!
There's a similar bulb for compact fluorescent as well

ADA 8000k is really nice as well.

      It's a nice add-on to the 8,000K Ecoxotic LEDs.

Do you think the 8,000K by itself will be similar to 8,000K LED + ColorMax?

I'm not fond of 10k over trophs/petros, it seems to wash them out for the most part.

8000k pc is kinda pink but brighter than the colormax
8000k HQI is supposedly the "Green" bulb but it has a really pure white color and is also meant to enhance color

For most of your variants I would think 6700k and 8000k/colormax

Interesting. Thanks for the insight Q.

You're right. After seeing my fish under ColorMax, everything looks washed out under 10,000K only.

          Wouldn't 6,700K be too yellow?

6700k is a bit yellow/green but it does wonders for yellow/green/red fish

There's a thread that this is discussed till black and blue. might be in the tropheus club section.

I remember Geoff bringing it up.
