Bought a garden hose and hose adapter from HD to help speed up water changes. Can I use the new hose or is there a break-in procedure to clear out any junk/chemical?

Will the water be coming in through the new water hose, going out, or both?

I just have one hose drain while the other fills.

This one will strictly be for refiling visa kitchen sink

I'd run it for a little while before using it, but just keep it out of the sun for long periods and you should be fine.

Define "a while" Is that minutes/hours/days?

That's doable. I'm assuming 5 minutes before each use for the first 5 - 10 uses?

I'd just do it once. In all honesty, with a new hose you should be fine from the beginning as long as you aren't running hot water through it. I'd do the five minutes for the first use just for a peace of mind.

Thanks Tim. Sounds good. I think this it's going to shave some serious time off my water changes. I usually use my Aqueon water changer but I catch myself waiting for tanks to fill up because the draining is so much faster with a 1" hose. 1/2" Aqueon with a lot of built in restrictions vs. 5/8" hose with far less restrictions. Test ruin coming up this weekend.

i agree with tim, if any toxins are going to come out they will do it when the hose is hot. in my industry, we would just recirculate hot water through the hose with a pump and heater to speed up this process.

my garden hose came with a big disclaimer saying that it contained chemicals that could cause cancer and that you should never drink from it... i have a second, white one that was given to me that i use to fill my tanks, i think its called a swan? its meant for potable water.

I'd test it first on fish you don't care if you lose. Or are easily replaced.

I timed my last water change and it took 1 1/2 hours. for 14 tanks most 5 and 10 gals and one 75gal. hmmm that seems long to me.

I use the outside garden hose but run the water for a few minutes prior to using it to refill... but it goes through the carbon bottle before going into the tank.

I have one that I use to drain and I don't think it matters for that one.
