  • Eheim Auto feeder

So I purchased an Eheim auto feeder a few weeks ago and have been excited about it due to the fact that I work so much and aren't always home at predictable feeding hours...After a couple trial and error food dumps I settled on two clicks open using NLS 1mm pellets...Anything more than that dumped a large amount of food that I had to later vacuum out...Well last week i forgot about it when I moved my canopy and it dropped in the water and sunk to the bottom...I fished it out, cleaned it up and after drying it out over night it worked...Well last night I filled it completely up with more pellets and was cleaning another tank when it fell in again...I'm assuming that completely filling it up is the reason for this happening...Well now I dried it out once again and got the lights working and reprogrammed it again but the drum wont spin...Perhaps after it completely dries out it will work again...If not I will possibly purchase another one this weekend...My question to those who have used these feeders is: Do you not fill the cylinder completely up when using the pellets? Should you bolt the feeder down to prevent this from happening? Has any other people let there feeder take a swim and got it back working perfectly again? I'm assuming since they are for aquarium use they might possibly be a little more water friendly than most products but who knows? Some of us just can't have nice things

It's not that some of us can't have nice things, it's more like some of us don't know how to set things up properly, especially if something has gone wrong once before

    Only partially kidding OP

I fill mine up all the way too and set out on my glass tops. Have had none of mine fall into a tank before either.

Being that you're using 1mm, it gets more densely packed than when filling up with larger pellets so you might have to not fill up all the way. Hopefully some of us figures that put after the feeder goes in the tank once

I have had my feeder full in the tank. killed it. It never worked right again. I didn't have it bolted down. Should have...

I have my eheim feeder full with 1mm nls never had a problem and hope i don't have the problem. I have mine sitting on the glass tops. Do you have tops on your tank or are you running open top? How and where did you put it? Its kind of hard for these to fall in if properly placed/mounted

If I had glass tops it probably wouldn't have happened...The first time was totally my fault for forgetting it was there...the second time I had it slid all the way back on my canopy so I didn't think it would even topple over...I will just stick to partially filling up the drum with food since the small pellets can pack in there pretty well...And sorry to hear about your feeder Troy, glad to know that it has happened to others as well...

Now that I think about it placing it on an open tank is probably not even how it was intended to be used...Too much room for error...I will probably try and get a glass top that way it almost isn't even possible for it to dump into the tank...

It comes out of the box with a bracket you can attach to the tank and the feeder gets screwed onto the bracket. I have one if you want it

I purchased it off of Ebay and they didn't include the bracket...I was kind of wondering if it came with something or not...If it survives I may take you up on the offer Sunny...

You could always use some double sided tape and mount it somewhere
