So, with my 135, I already have two wet drys to put on. The newest one has a Rio 2500hp on it. Both have bio balls, but Im tired of bio balls. Im wanting to get into purigen and other media options but Im not sure where to start. Never used purigen, and I want this tank to be done right. What's some better options than bio balls?

Because I want something different. I feel like I'm taking the easy way out with doing only the standard. I wanna use some purigen and don't know where to start.210gPetrochromis Macrognatus Green 'Nsumbu

I use Purigen in the sump, set them by the return pump intake strainer so that water interacts with it before heading back into the tank, but bio balls are my bio media.

Apparently. Well another reason is, I acquired a wet dry two days ago and it's pretty big. I don't know what the guy did to the bio balls, but they are extremely brittle and break easily. I wanted to look at other media options instead of buying more bio balls. I guess i'll stick with it, but I do want advice on using purigen and how to get it started.210gPetrochromis Macrognatus Green 'Nsumbu

bio balls are the biological filtration and are not replaced by purigen. purigen would be replacing carbon and is best placed downstream of the wet/dry.75G Standard - High Light Planted Community Fish

Iv never personally uswd a wet dry. But in regards to the post about media.....well if ur replacing bio balls! There are other options, med grade lava rock, seachem matrix (personal favorite), the fluval or eheim rings, or theres the option of diy. Theres so much you can do for media, never messed w the purigen yet but have allways head good things. I like a good solid sponge followed by some sort of micron pad-bag or whatever. Carbon is mixed with an amonia remover is good combo. Iv heard of peat gravel, but not familiar with it. But it sounds like with 2 running wet drys u would have a ton of options for how to set up ur filters.5 gal baby hecqui grow out
