Anthracite Carbon Filter Media

So the mountain rocks that I found that ended up being high quality anthracite that is commonly used in municipal water treatment. From what I've been reading, there have been arguments over the difference between activated carbon (charcoal) and anthracite coal. People who deal with municipal water treatment says it's safe to use as a filter media while aquarium hobbiest are unsure or have yet to try it. I picked them up hoping to use them as scape rocks but not sure if I should use it for scaping or just smashing it into media.

I want to know what your personal opinions on anthracite and what I should actually use it for.
