Here's the filter and one of the occupants!
Looks good! You're sure packing! Just how many bottles of Pond Matrix is that?! Also, I see that underneath the pond matrix you have some sort of blue thing holding it up? That's not eggcrate is it?

I think it's around 6-8 liters of matrix. The blue piece is basically eggcrate

Wow that's a lot! You've never had a problem with the pond matrix falling out through the eggcrate or the eggcrate collapsing from the weight? Does the Pond Matrix ever clog up on you the way you have it? I know the pieces range from marble size to larger and some may fit into the space so I'm curious to know as to how you've got this working. I may also convert to Pond matrix instead of bio balls.

Man my wet dry egg crate would definitely collapse if I was to use that... Mayb you can get away with the smaller ones.

It's not the standard plastic grating that usually comes with wet dry filters. It's a real sturdy piece. The sump is a Berliner wd125 model sump.

Not quite. I picked up a media bag full of a bottle of pond matrix and it's not light at all. Maybe at first when it's not saturated with water and bacteria, but afterwards it gets to a hefty weight that I doubt the standard eggcrate could hold especially with how much swk has in his.

Ah. Okay. I think I'll try it and if the eggcrate collapses, I'll just chunk it in the sump.

Im just gonna put a piece of filter floss on the top of my egg crate.

Only problem with that is that it'll clog and you'd have to change it out. I wouldn't like digging through 6-8 liters of pond matrix just to change out filter floss.

+1 Unless you put it in the media bags that come with the 226x

Yup. Didn't think about that one. Although if the water level stays above the filter floss, it won't clog as fast as the initial floss.
