        i find the best reuslts at the surface with the spray going parallel to the water surface. this protein contains oils and doesnt really break up or go away. the idea is to semi-mix (its technically immiscable) the oils into the water column long enough for your filter to pull it out. if i have heavy buildup, i will run a strong powerhead with venturi at the water surface for a hour or so right before i clean the filter. if you dont clean the filter pads then the stuff will eventually show back up again.
