Was wondering how often do you back wash/flush the carbon tanks?

I've never done it.. I just let the water run for a minute before I put water in my tank. Curious to see what others do.

        I back wash every weekend.

Its not to remove any particles. I do it so channels don't form in the carbon.

I try to do it every 3 months. Sometimes it will flow nasty for almost 30 minutes. I think I will do it tonight. Thanks for reminding me.

When you say "backwash" - do you mean you just reverse the flow of the water? If so, do you have issues with the carbon coming out?

                Re: Carbon bottle users

I think back flushing is not needed in carbon bottles which have water flowing upwards through the carbon granules during normal operation, because back flushing would mean that water flows down through the granules without disturbing the way the granules sit. Flowing water upward through the granules fast enough to suspend them is what's needed to break up any channeling.
