  • Leaky eheim 2215

I just got a brand new Eheim 2215 set up last night. I noticed it was leaking a bit so I completely reassembled it. Afterwards it was not leaking but when i put pressure on the top and touched it moving around a small stream would come out from the o-ring seal area. I then took it apart and set it up again and placed it in a bucket overnight. There was virtually no leaking overnight but when i touched it this morning it would leak a bit.

It seems that the o-ring area on the canister is big enough for 2 or 3 o-rings stacked and it only has one. Does this sound right? This is pretty frustrating because this thing wasn't cheap. I can send it back but I am hoping this is just something I don't have set up just right. I am going to try some vasoline or grease on the o-ring and see if that helps.

Anyone experience similar issues setting up a brand new Eheim canister? any tips or tricks or do I just need to RMA it?

Where exactly is it leaking ? Is it coming from the pump ? Or is it coming from around the pump head where it connects to the canister ?

pump head where it connects to the canister, O ring area. doesn't seem to only come from one point. I am thinking it is an o ring seal issue. It seems weird that it would leak from this area brand new. The mating surfaces do not look to be damaged and the o-ring is perfect and new.

Add the Vaseline and report back . I read somewhere a while back that adding a little Vaseline or grease will correct the issue .

look for cracks or ask them to send you a new oring instead of shipping the whole thing back.

I will recheck the o-ring and try to apply some vaseline after work. I will report back my results.

I took apart the thing dried it up. The o-ring looked good no damage so I greased it with some petroleum jelly. So far so good no leaks and it is running silent. Thanks for the help!
