  • Ammonia in tap water

I noticed that my tank levels said 0 on everything but ammonia and it read 0.25. I tested the water out of my tap and it read 0.25. What is an affordable fix for this? Or should I just leave it? I have never noticed any weird actions from my fish until today I saw one flashing. Any ideas/experience with this?

Use Seachem Prime to dechlorinate. It breaks the chloramine bond, leaving chlorine and ammonium. Then it removes the chlorine and detoxifies the ammonia (but still leaves a reading). Then if your tank is cycled, the bacteria will break down the ammonia and ultimately raising your nitrates. Higher nitrates is the downfall of ammonia (chloramines) in tap water. If you're still reading ammonia, your tank isn't cycled or filters can't keep up with the bioload
