  • Power head in sump

I've been thinking about putting a small power head in my sump to keep the water moving and free of detritus. What y'all think?

Done. It's a good idea. I have a powerhead and a filter in my sump along with organic cleaners in my sump

I might add a small filter in mine too. Good idea.

I put a whisper 10i in mine. Sits in the sump, helps clean it, and adds more oxygenation with the water falling from the top of the filter. Also have 4 airstones in each corner

I threw a couple of mollies, platies & guppies in my sump. Now it's poop free & I've never once fed them. Sunny did the same & was happy with the results as well.

Yeah I remember talking to someone about that idea but I never did it.

When I had fry get sucked up in the overflow, when I would clean the sump the fry in the sump were two times as big as the ones in the tank. They were eating good!!!

Works well, too! Thanks for your input when I asked about it a few months back. Before I did it, I read it was ok to do, but wanted to ask some "locals". Yall came through! Works like a charm!

The flip side of that is when the livebearers in the sump breed, the fry get spit into the tank & provide snacks, lol.

That was my main purpose, eating detritus and protein off the water surface was just a plus.
