  • Light hues and intensity on fish?

There's a bunch of colors that I've seen being used to bring out the color of fish. I was wondering if red lights bring out red colors? Same with blue, green, yellow, etc?

Never messed with the idea but the fish has red fins, a black dot, and is silver with a slight tint of yellow. I'd like to make the yellow tint pop out more.

I don't know I think its more in how we see the fish under the lights rather than the fish itself but I could be wrong not a scientist

8000k brings out reds/oranges, 6500k (cool white) i've noticed brings out yellows. 50/50 bulbs are great for greens/blues. I know they make full spectrum bulbs, but not experienced with them

I haven't researched it yet as it was just a thought that came up while I was thinking of how I wanted my canopy to be

I've heard about those full spectrum bulbs as well. I thought cool white was 10,000k? Thanks for something to start with

Full spectrum is the way to go...

Cool whites and natural white combo helps the reds/oranges paired with the 8000k.

50/50 just washes out everything IMO.

As far as I know from my experiences with reptiles, full spectrum bulbs are simply a replica of natural sunlight, which is between, 5500-6500K.

all the other bulbs in the cooler temp ranges, 6700 and up, reproduce the sunlight as it appears at depth under water

Re: Light hues and intensity on fish?

Sounds like everyone is in favor of full spectrum bulbs. How would that look with 3w LEDs? Would the LEDs overpower it or vice-versa?

                          I don't favor full spectrum

My mention of full spectrum is through compiling of different spectrum bulbs/LEDs

I'm not sure what this other full spectrum is.

Gonna go with MH 8,000k bulbs and see how that turns out. As for full spectrum, Ek was referring to using different kinds of color bulbs/leds to get a full spectrum of colors.
