I bought three lights recently. All GLO high output. One is 48" and it's really bright and clear. I just got two 36" high output GLO but its more of a blue tint. I'm not sure what spectrum to get. 10k?

Re: What T5?
The blue tint tank is in all reality probably a 10k, the other tank is probably 6500/8000k as it has a slightly yellower in the spectrum. 10k bulbs are described as "crisp white with a slight blue tint", whereas 6500/8000k are more "midday sun" and have a slight yellow tint to them. At the end of the day unless you have saltwater/coral you dont NEED 10k bulbs, and unless you have freshwater live plants you dont NEED 6500/8000K bulbs, it is essentially down to how you like your tank to look so which ever you prefer is what you should go for! Having said all that, different bulb manufacturers have different ideas of what constitutes 10k/6.5k/8k so you may have to try different bulbs to see how they look to your eyes. Also there was a thread on here fairly recently about how different color temps make your fish look, that may be worth a look into when youre trying to decide

Josiah, you need a blue bulb and a white. A 10,000 k and then a blue atenic. Weather you go with the HO , or the other one your colors will look good with a nice crisp white and a deep blue combo.5 gal baby hecqui grow out

I think the first (yellowish) bulb appears to be either a 6500K or perhaps a 12,000K. The bluish one looks to be a 10,000K, though its difficult to tell. Many manufacterers vary temperatures and not all of them are perfectly accurate. I myself would suggest a 6500K light for a softer white, while a 12,000K for a crisper penetrating white. Both should be fine for your purposes and there are some great deals online for multibulb packs where you can mix/match spectrums and try a variety out. Hit me up for the address and I'd be happy to send you a link. I can get a 4 pack of bulbs mailed for the avg. cost of 1 new bulb at the stores....In the land of the blind, the one-eyed man is king.

Sent you the link and researched the bulbs a bit, they are listing as 12,000K with the addition of a 420nm actinic. I'm going to guess it is some sort of hybrid bulb for marine/reef applications made in Germany. In the land of the blind, the one-eyed man is king.

I always buy from Top Dog Sellers on Ebay, they have great prices on bulbs and sell in 4 packs (mix and match) just tell him what you want him to ship in the comments. He is located somewhere in Houston and only takes 1-2 days to get the fixtures/bulbs. He has 6500K, 10,000K, 420nm (actinic), and freshwater pink (8000K). Most of the packs with shipping come out cheaper then single bulbs elsewhere and you have extra bulbs in case you need a replacement. Here is a link to his Ebay store if anyone wants to look it over...In the land of the blind, the one-eyed man is king.
