  • petco black aquarium sand?

    Anyone here used the stuff?

Looking for a black sand that is a bit coarser than your black beauty blasting sand. Need something with the grit size of some crushed coral sand.

I have it in a saltwater tank, it's decent and doesn't get blown around too much.

Thanks that's what I like to hear.

Gonna use it in my fw tank but the flow in there is extreme and the fish tend to kick it up a lot.

Would this be as coarse as Estes sand? Or is it coarser?

Oh it does blow around, just not too much. I have a Koralia nano 240 at one end and an evolution 750 at the other both aimed at the front of the tank and it blows around a little between the live rock.

              Size of tank?

From the pictures it looks like a larger grit size in comparison to PFS, correct?

have no idea, remember reading something about that but without seeing the difference I wouldn't know. Can't be too coarse and sharp though as I have soft stomach bottom dwellers.

i remember when i got some they had different sizes but then it might be too coarse for the softies...

When I bought the black diamond they had two grit sizes. 20-40 and 30-60 with 30-60 being finer. I can't remember if I bought the 20-40 or the 30-60.

It's a 55 gallon and I have a couple inches of it in the tank. It is larger and coarser than PFS. It's very similar to the Carib-Sea Hawaiian black sand that I have in another tank. It does seem to be a heavier sand as when it gets kicked up it doesn't blow around it just falls right back down but it may be too coarse for what you are needing.

could you take a picture of it in your tank with something there to use to compare?

Check out fish ranch. I just had him order me 50lbs for $20. Its not a super fine sand. Like a coarse black sand.
