So, I had some Red Kachese fry in my fry tank and they were all dead. I touch the water because I know the parameters are good. Water was actually hot. I put thermometer and water is 99.6 degrees. Pissed because I never experienced this before. Is the heater jacked or can I still use it?

I'd safely assume that if you didn't have it set that high, it malfunctioned & trash it just to be on the safe side. Depending on how old it is it may still be under warranty & eligible for a free replacement through the manufacturer.180g - 2 Red Oscars, 1 Tiger Oscar, 1 JD, Convicts, convicts & more convicts

sorry to hear that... this is part of the reason why I'm afraid to use a strong heater for my tank.. I have 2 small one instead. Even if one malfunctions, the worst can happen is it will stop working rather than overheating my tank.I have the patience of a goldfish....

It was on 1/3 setting. Always been like that and water was always in 78-80 range. The water was 100 degrees. Never heard of any heater getting that hot lol.210gPetrochromis Macrognatus Green 'Nsumbu

It happens more than you think. Basically the heater breaks and stays in the on position. Usually happens more often with the low quality or non name brand heaters although it does happen to the better brands.Originally posted by moganman View PostIt was on 1/3 setting.
