  • Canister filter question

Ok gonna start building my rack and trying to decide if I want to use canister filters or hob.
So now I was thinking all the tanks are gonna be 20L can I use a 2217 and split the intake and return off to filter 2 or 3 tanks?

I could see that causing issues. If one of the 3 hoses gets a tiny clogged and slows down, the other 2 would fill up quicker and overflow some

If you drilled the bottom of them that would solve that problem

Even if the return gets clogged on one of the hoses, since it's split, it will just add more flow to the other hoses. I just see it having more potential issues than not. If you were to get 3 of the penguin 350s, you'd b better off. Splitting the flow of a 2217 would be less than 100g/h per tank. Im sure the water would be healthy, but still on the low side for overall flow

My old rack of 4x 20longs used a sponge filter in each tank, powered by the same air pump and a small aqueon 10 (100gph) on each tank and the tanks were crystal clear with steady breeding. Cheaper and mor effective than splitting up a single filter snce you have 2 forms of filtration for each tank

I agree, hob's are easier and the possibility of cross contamination, different water parameters could all be controlled far easier.

Thats kinda what i was thinking as well but wasnt sure I just gotta leave room for the hob with the canisters its more of a clean look and all...... I also like the idea of sponge filters cause 3 of the tanks are gonna be planted shrimp tanks
