  • Converting Reef Ready into Closed Loop?

I have a chance to pick up a nice reef ready 150 gallon tank, but already have 2 Eheim 2262 that I would prefer to use. Suggestions on how to re-plumb or change over? I am assuming the overflow boxes are removeable...but would I need to remove them?

You can just plug up the hole at the bottom of the overflow if you don't want to use it. You won't need to remove it, it will still fill up with water, just just stay there instead of actually draining.

I could tell you how to do it... but because it wouldn't me gravity fed into the eheim it might make a gurgling sound trying to suck water. Sell one of the eheims and get a wetdry and a pump. Hook the other eheim up to it and have a ton of filtration. Smk has a small wetdry in his garage I'm sure he would sell cheap.

I've done this before you just need to flood the overflow. If you begin to hear the water cascade then that means you need to add water from evap.

Plug the eheim into the corresponding bulk heads.

Nm... with it being closed loop you could fiill the overflow as high as you want. Just remove the strainer and the spray bar from the 2262 and plump the tubing straight to the intake and output bulkheads via barb fittings

Soooo...plumb the intake like normal, make sure the column is full of water. Where does the output flow out to? Over the top of the overflow does not seem right.

You can plumb the return to the normal return which should go through the overflow and over.

I think they're saying to attach the intake to the overflow and use spray bar like normal but you have to make sure that the overflow is full of water or else it will start making noise from air bubbles

The water level in the overflow needs to be the same as the water level in the tank so that no noise is made. Do not put a stand pipe or anything in the over flow this way the water will flow all the way down to the bulkhead and into the eheim.
