  • Fluval FX5 Will Not Start

Did a water changes tonight and clean my Fluval FX5. The filter have been up and running for about 6 months. I put all the media in the baskets and place them back into the canister. Fill it up with approx. 2 gal of water. Opened the valves up and plugged it in. Waited two minutes and nothing so I have unplugged it until I no what I need to do to get it running. Have anyone else had this problem if so what do I need to do.

    Thanks
    Letta

Try kicking it or opening it up to see if anything is jammed in the motor part/ impeller

I've had this happen to me as well it was clogged once and I had to tap the pump a few times another time to get it going again but runs like a champ

It should just start right up upon plug in. Its possible theres something jammed in the impeller part. You'll need a long phillips head to take off the motor assembly. Also, make sure that your intake still has the siphon going. And double check ur shut off valves. Other then that not sure .....

Just leave it on for about ten minutes. Those FX5 tend to cut on and off when they want.

If you stirred up sand when doing water changes, these things are notorious for jamming with even a grain or two of sand getting in the impeller. I have 2 FX5's and have this happen more than once. Clean and rinse the inside remove all the filter material and baskets to remove any trapped sand or debris and take out and rinse the basket and impeller very well.

                Good Luck!

had this problem before also, its prolly clogged or has sand or gravel stuck in there motor, just take it off and clean it real good and make sure the magnet connects on when you put it back together or youll have problems again its pretty simple to do but its easy to put the motor back on wrong also, my propeller had gunk all over it and with a good cleaning its been working fine

Thanks for all of your pointers. Took all the media out in the baskets, rinse the canister and removed the pump and cleaned the impeller real good. Put everything back together and it is working fine now.
