I would also worry about that much fresh water.  I live just off of HWY 6 in Hitchcock and have 4-5 blue 50 gallon barrels that I can lone you if you have a truck to pick them up this afternoon.  These are water barrels outside that I raise fish in and have this many empty to loan you.  ksteblei@utmb.edu.  cell 409-771-3305 just died so need to get a battery replacement in the next hour.  let me know.  You can keep the barrels for a couple weeks.  later, ken

That is SUCH a nice offer...I sincerely appreciate it.   :) You are too kind.  Unfortunately, we are both at work until at least 5, so no way we could make it down to Hitchcock today.  Sure wish I'd posted a couple days ago....

I think I'm just going to buy some large bins and garbage cans on my way home today.  That seems to be the general consensus, and considering I'm running against the clock, I think that's going to be the easiest route.

I'd just gotten a new gray Rubbermaid Brute to premix water changes last summer when my 150 sprang it's leak. I put most of the fish in there with water salvaged from the tank and kept my cannister filter running in it two. They stayed in there for a couple of days till I could move them to other tanks, and everyone did fine. I put an old window screen over the top in case of leaping, but I think the gray kept them pretty quiet. I also put in some plastic plants to float around on the surface to make them feel more secure.  If I lived near a restaurant supply, I'd probalby try to buy uncolored Brutes, but I've never had a problem with any of their gray barrels or buckets.   This is the sort of thing that's kept me from having my floors redone for the past few years ! Good luck.   I always wondered how people got home with 240 gallon tanks.

You can use Hot water with no issue to bump up the temperature. It's just that moving that 150, 210, and trying to setup a 240 your going to go use a lot of hotwater.  

I would still use some extraheaters on any tank that has to have fish right back into it.

Something to think about.  This is a quote from an old thread I just spent 20 minutes looking for...LOL

the reason that you find folks who recommend not to use water from your hot water heater is that the water from the hot water heater is not hot enough to kill bacteria and if water sits in your water heater long enough for the chlorine to evaporate (hastened by the heat) it can be full of bacteria. The bacteria is not harmful to us when we take a shower, but can be harmful to the fish. Also if your hot water heater is not flushed annually like the factories suggest, you can get a sediment build up in the bottom that harbors bacteria and occasionally some will come out with the hot water.
If you are doing small water changes (25%) or less you will probably not see enough of a temp swing in larger tanks to really bother your fish. For winter use I have a small holding tank of 100 gallons, I put a few submersible heaters in it and a circulation pump and use that to bring the water temp up a little bit, it is not really necessary to get it the exact temp of your tank, just so you don't do large water changes with water that is 30 or more degrees colder than your tank. exactly matching your tanks water temp is over rated, not a bad idea by any means, but not as critical as some suggest. If you let water sit in buckets to get to room temp, that in itself is really enough, but do not let it sit for more than about 18 hours as the chlorine will evaporate and there will be nothing in the water to prevent bacteria growth (especially if aerated). for my tanks with the drip system and overflows, I don't do anything at all, they get water at line temperature after it has been thru my prefilters, they get about 15% water change 4 times a day.

Okay, we've got it in place and are now returning as much water as I could save back into the tank.  guygeek stopped and picked up extra heaters on his way home, so I think we are good.  

Now...get this....the movers and guygeek were somehow able to move the 210 and the 150 without removing all of the water and any of the fish!!  I'm still in shock!

Well hell....back in the day, when I was young and fiesty, I could lift a full grown cow outta the mudhole back home.....I don't see nuttin special about lifting a little bit of water and a few anchovies....
