  • Top Frame Repair

On my sons 90 gallon the cross brace was broke. So I used some heavy gage wire and epoxy and put it back together. So fast forward today and I looked the brace and its spread open about a quarter of an inch. Well it doesn't look to bad until you look down the tank and see where it's bowing out. My question is I found a new top frame for $18. Has anyone every replaced one before? It's it worth it or should I be looking for a new tank?

Should be able to run a razor acros the break the silicone seal. Pop off old frame. Put new silicone down an add new frame. Where did you find new top? My 90 gal bow also has a broken center brace.

I found it online at glass cages. Here's the link to the top frames on their website. http://www.glasscages.com/?sAction=ViewCat&lCatID=43
I had to call them and it ended up being $30 for the frame and the shipping. Should be here in a few days she said.

Had same problem on my bowfront. Center brace was completely missing. I bought an aluminum strip about 2 inch wide, L brackets and drilled holes in the strip. Attached brackets and screwed screws into the frame. When I filled up the tank, the brackets caught the glass from bowing out more.

I hope that you asked for the measurements of the frame before you ordered it. In particular with the 75-90 gallon tanks, the measurements can vary with the manufacturer. I've seems tanks that are 47 7/8" long all the way up to 48 3/16". Hopefully you got the right size frame

No I didn't even ask them since their website gave the dimension of their frame which was 48x18. The only thing I double checked was the width of the tank before I ordered it. It's suppose to be in today or tomorrow so hopefully it fit...

Well frame came in today and I did a test fit. Found out some of the silicone I left in the corners actually had to go. I was really surprised how tight the fit was. Anyways pulled it back off and laid a bead of silicone on the top and down in the corners. Put the frame back on and pressed it down all the way around. So far so good, guess I'll give a few days and go ahead and refill it for the 3rd time.
