  • My ballast went out

I have a 24" coralife fixture that just went out. Took everything apart an wires look good and everything attached, I guess it just went bad. No idea where to buy replacement. Model number is BH-APL0551A. If someone can help me out, it would be greatly appreciated. As i don't know where to start.

No way!!! My coralife quad bulb fixture also went out this weekend... have been driving around town trying to find some temporary lights for my reef tank before all my corals die. Weird coincidence huh, no clue on how to fix it. Did you check to see if it was a ballast issue?

Bought a new light and tried that out. Turns on for a split second then shuts off. Think ballast is just old. Let me know if you find out where to get a ballast replacement.

I bet it's not a ballast issue, I thought it was a bulb that went out as well at first. I then swapped them around to a different ballast and found out that all my bulbs work fine... now my fixture is leaking current somewhere which is tripping my GFCI as soon as I plug it in. Either I reattached the grounding screws incorrectly or there is some faulty wiring. I emailed the coralife people... let's see how well they stand behind their product.

While I wait for them to get back to me, I'm buying a Maxspect Razor to replace my fixture... agree with the above comment, LED is the way to go.

This is probably the cheapest option that will reliably grow plants (plus they look pretty slick). There are a lot of cheap led options that just won't cut it... you have to check and see the wattage of each individual led, what the spectrum is from each diode, and how many there are of each color range. You have to remember that your paying for the bulbs that you won't have to replace in the initial cost

Two bulb or four. They arent hard to replace. Just cut the wires, yank out old ballest go to a lighting supplier and buy new one and buy wire back in. New one probably cost ya around 35.00! I have a supplier where i gt mine from off 290
