While comparing the msds of Instant Ocean and Solar salt is see that the Solar salt is missing a few compounds. Magnesium chloride, Sodium sulfate, potassium chloride, and calcium chloride are the compounds the are missing. Are you guys dosing those?

but you only use Epson salt. This salt has different purposes. It helps fish heal and provide some minerals. I use 1 table spoon per 10 gallons.

At every water change, as a pH buffer along with Epsom salt and as a tonic, a cup per 100 gallons.

Swear by it? I usually just throw a handful of both in after water change... for good luck.

Sunny, I throw a little of each also. Just wondering if anyone out there has any noticeable results. You've probably been doing this longer than I have.

Maybe not. I didn't use to till a few months ago when my water supply started going softer to almost 7.0 so I did some research on how to economically raise and stabilize pH and adding the two salts and baking soda is what I chose to do.

I see. I've read about the homemade buffer recipes. I don't own a test kit because I've been cheap-skating it. Maybe I should rethink it?

Only if your fish are affected. I found that my BG, WC and F1, are very sensitive to lowered pH. The change I saw after adding the buffers was remarkable and they're breeding more than ever with fewer total fish. I still wanna have about 30 - 50 of them in a tank in the future
