The top or surface is movable, but the deeper you go into the body of the substrate, the tighter it gets.

Ya know, I cant for the life of me remember where I got them.  I would like at least one more, to replace a jumper  :(.  That pic is with pool filter sand so you have an idea of just how little the guys are.  They're sposed to get much larger, although I think they're not 'horseface' loaches, but rather 'longface' ones.  When they're out of the sand, I run for the camera, but by the time I get back with it, they're buried again.  when I had them in the tiny earthtone gravel, they almost never buried - it was too big for them.  Thanks to Raul for a bit of sand to put them in to make them happier :) .

MB -- I am thinking you will need to ask someone who is willing to split a bag with you.

Delock -- He has to order a pallet at a time... ie 30 bags else they dont ship at all.

I might have the sand early next week, I'll keep you all posted.

During the first water change I performed on the 58 Oceanic with the "test" batch of sand, the vacuum easily picked up all the waste that was visible on the surface of the sand. I have noticed however, that the sand seems to have a little discloration on the surface, it appears to be like a layer of "dust" or something that is growing or settling on the sand. A little raking of the surface layer of sand cleared that right up.  The discloration was minimal at this point.

Are you running the gravel vac tube through the sand or just hovering above the surface?

As for the discoloration, could it be a hint of diatoms?

I'm running the vacuum just above the surface of the sand, I should test my belief, that if I stuck the vacuum into the sand, that indeed the sand would be sucked right up the hose with the dirt and water.

I'm not sure what diatoms are, and what they might look like if they where present, I'll have to look them up and do some research of my own.

I have the a really long python gravel vac tube and it does a decent job of not sucking up a lot of eco-complete sand if I were to substrate clean with it.
