  • RO DI Filter

    Hi

I am researching ro/di systems and I am going to buy one this week. Does anybody have any suggestions of which kind to buy? My guess is that I am going to be way ahead of the game whatever system I buy but maybe there are some that are better than others or more appropriate for a fish room setup. I will be setting it up in my garage fish room and storing the water in 50 gallon drums. I am doing freshwater, Africans and SA/CA. Maybe the Africans need the dissolved solids? Just use this water for the SA/CA tanks?

    Thanks!!!!!

Alright, so I do reef aquariums and most of the advice you get from people doing that is overkill, but a great place to start.

I have owned two RO systems, once from bulk reef supply and one from aquasafecanada from ebay. Both had murloc (push to connect) fittings, the better versions of those. The bulk reef supply had see through sheaths for the filter stages which was useless on the non DI stages.

The aquasafe filter struck me as similar quality for the housing, but the filters themselves (not the membrane but the carbon block and sediment filter) were not as nice. I don't have chloramines, so I really only cared about the membrane itself, and they use a Dow Filmtec. The aquasafe was in my opinion not quite as nice, but a much nicer value.

Bulk reef supply is generally the safest bet, but not the absolute cheapest, and aqua safe canada has proven to be a great value so far.
