Re: asking about harmness of chemical
Don't drink out of your fish tank.
use the chemical name in your search engine and look for the MSDS
that will tell you everything you didn't want to know or were afraid to ask'Dear Lord,' the minister began, with arms extended toward heaven and a rapturous look on his upturned face. 'Without you, we are but dust ...'
He would have continued but at that moment my very obedient daughter who was listening leaned over to me and asked quite audibly in her shrill little four-year old girl voice, 'Mom, what is butt dust?'

Re: asking about harmness of chemical
If it says something like "The chemicals in the product have been found to cause cancer in the state of California", or something like that, it's probably labeled due to Prop 65. Prop 65 requires that anything that may cause cancer be listed and labeled in California.
I really wouldn't worry about it too much. Here's a link to the list of chemicals that cause cancer in Cali. http://www.oehha.ca.gov/prop65/prop6...ngle120806.pdf
How often do you put gas in your car? Unleaded gasoline is also on the list. I'm pretty sure I could check the labels on most everything in my house and find these chemicals make up a part of most of the cleaning products/medications I use....so I really wouldn't be worried if I were you.Our Fishhouse

Re: asking about harmness of chemical
you wouldn't want to have your hands soaking in these chemicals for a long period of time.....they would affect you more so if your immune system was comprimised such as with disease process....HIV, cirrhosis of the liver, ect...... if your immune system is of the norm then your risk factor is lowered to a 1% chance in 4 million that you would be affected by them. But with warnings also comes common sense....sort of like when your child is immunized with a live virus such as MMR or oral polio vaccine and you have someone in your household that has the above listed or cancer then you must not have them around that individual for they can contract the virus from respiratory secretions as well as feces and urine from diaper changes.....so don't let the label warnings frighten you.....just use common sense when it comes to the exposure factors.....as girlgeek says....even gasoline is listed as a cancer causing agent.....but if your fish are in need then by all means treat them....

Re: asking about harmness of chemical
I am more worried about my fish getting cancer than myself. I am like Deuce Bigalow pouring Fiji water into my fish tank while I drink the dirty bathroom tap water. Course Fiji is bottled in a plastic that may contain Bisphenol A and so I might actually be killing my fish that way. Breathing air can cause cancer, I am glad my fish breathes water, which is cleaner than my apt. right now.
But seriously, I wouldn't drink any of the fish meds. You might get cancer, and whether you blame that on the smoking or the drinking fish meds, you might die.
