Oceanic Trickle filter?

I was given an Oceanic Trickle filter model 75 and was wondering if anyone has experience with them. I think I have all the pieces including mag7 pump. I wasn't able to find much on the internet as I believe it's an older setup. I'm going to use on my freshwater 75. I know the bio balls go in the middle chamber but I was wondering if the pump is to be mounted outside as there is a bulk head fitting with strainer on the left side(pic 2). Here are some pics.

Here is a link to someone else who has a Oceanic 75 Trickle filter. Maybe it will help. I think the pump is to be inside the "tank". You can use the bulkhead in pic 2 to attach tubing for a return line.

Sorry about that I went back and took pics. It appears to be about a 1" dia.

I don't think there's room to put the mag 7 pump on the inside.

Here's a pic of the pump. I noticed that it had metal screws, I think I should mount it on the outside to avoid rusting.
It is 1/2" inlet/outlet

The only thing I would point out is that the return line, since you are pumping water out of the trickle filter, should be the line that snakes around your filter, your down pipe should have the least amount of turns etc.  Reason is that the closer to a straight line you get the less of a gurgling sound your going to have as air escape (at least that is what I have found) -- just my two cents..

Go to the hardware store of LFS and find the proper fittings so that you can connect the mag7 to the bulkhead....the pump sits outside the tank and make sure the o-ring on that mag7 is a good to keep the seal tight and water off the floor.

Also make sure that the mag7 sit level with the bulkhead to keep pressure of the pump head and fittings.

I have a few mag drive pumps and never had much of a problem with them rusting....even in my saltwater tanks.
