I syphon from tank to 5g bucket
but I keep a 2nd hand pump in the bucket with a 50' hose to the toilet or backyard pond / daphnia tank.

But in my new fishroom, I'm building a deep sink

The baster idea worked with only one modification. The hole on the baster is too small so the gravel would block the flow. So all I have to do is trim the baster a bit and viola! I have a way to get into the smallest regions of the tank!

Oh, and Ellen, putting the entire thing into the tank worked perfect. It took me a couple minutes to get the hang of it but that is the way to go.
