not really, just looking if I can make one just to keep myself busy.

after all this is what the hobby is all about to me, keep busy and not do stupid thing to harm myself.

carbon as in activated carbon CF ? is there any alternative to that ? those are expensive

Oh I wont pretend to have all the answers, I recommend you do some calling around....one place I like to call for intel, is that fish place....and ask for one of their marine biologist in customer service.....or research the web.

Call Dan from HAW, he is really nice and I trust him to give you honest answers to any fish related question.

Call and talk to charles or others in the biz....I also have faith in Don at Aquarium World.
