Re: Leveling a tank
the safest way would be to drain the tank....remove the tank, and level the stand....replace tank, confirm it's level....refill the tank.
If you have enough containers you can save the tank water if you like....

Re: Leveling a tank
use a carpenters level with the bubble in the middle and square the bubble in the exact center, kind of a pain sometimes, but it will make you smile afterwards when the tank water is squared off....
Good Luck....

Re: Leveling a tank
Lowe's sells "SHIMS" wooden wedges uswed to leveling doors, windows & cabinets. They work well on a bare floor and a wooden stand.
Some people us a 1/2" layer of styrafoam between the carpet and frame as a self leveling device.'Dear Lord,' the minister began, with arms extended toward heaven and a rapturous look on his upturned face. 'Without you, we are but dust ...'
He would have continued but at that moment my very obedient daughter who was listening leaned over to me and asked quite audibly in her shrill little four-year old girl voice, 'Mom, what is butt dust?'

Re: Leveling a tank
The styrafoam really only compensates for uneven high spots in the surfaces it is separating. It does not level the frame or tank.
Points that stickout are also points of highest pressure and the higher pressure will cause the styrafoam to compress more.
If you have a strong ridgid frame, you could support it from 3 points (put marbles under the 4 corners) and the frame will not bend and touch the flour in any other place. If you put styrafoam (twice as thick as the marble) under the frame, the marbles will sink into the foam untill all the frame is touching the foam.
If when you use the marbles or wedges your frame sags in unsupported areas then I would get another stand.'Dear Lord,' the minister began, with arms extended toward heaven and a rapturous look on his upturned face. 'Without you, we are but dust ...'

Re: Leveling a tank
Hold on guys. Nobody has asked what kind of stand it is. If its one of the partical board types, then it realy could be a disaster pushing shims under one side. The joint on those things are king of scary so if you were to put pressure at just one point, it could be catastrophic.
If not and its real wood pine or other, The phishPhreek is right to use the door shims. If your looking for more surface area then Lowes sells precut pieces of oak that are 1/4" thick about 24" long with widths that vary. If your tank was unlevel from one end to the other as you say it is then this would work well also. There is no "normal" life, it's just life so get on with it.

Re: Leveling a tank
Go back up and read Post #2....Come on guys, this one's easy...You don't wanna be taking chances with a full tank. Empty the tank first.
