  • Tank Trim Question

I have a 135 at home that I am currently cleaning up. Well I noticed a couple pieces of the trim was lose on this tank and I decided to reinstall all the trim just for the heck of it. Now my question is, what is the best way to secure the trim while re applying the silicone/trim?

    Thanks

    Re: Tank Trim Question

I think its usually held on with a thin bead of silicone along the top edge of the glass...  at least thats how its looked when I've pulled trim off.

              Re: Tank Trim Question

The silicone was the only thing keeping the trim in place, but I am wondering if when the tank is built at the factory, do they use clamps or anything to secure the trim until the silicone sets up.

I am really discouraged by this new company Ocean Atlantis, I hope they have corrected this problem, this is the second Ocean Atlantis tank I have bought new, that has developed loose trim after a few months of use.

By the way, just in case anyone is curious, YES, this is the tank I had posted here for sale a couple weeks back, I'll repost after I have secured the trim and am happy with the overall appearance.

I will ask the manufacturer of your tank how he normally does it.

I was gonna say, he is fairly local if memory serves.  I figured one of the LFS on here that carry his tanks could either call him or something to that effect.

Gaffer tape would be a good choice.

'Dear Lord,' the minister began, with arms extended toward heaven and a rapturous look on his upturned face. 'Without you, we are but dust ...'
He would have continued but at that moment my very obedient daughter who was listening leaned over to me and asked quite audibly in her shrill little four-year old girl voice, 'Mom, what is butt dust?'

                        Re: Tank Trim Question

Well, I re-installed the bottom trim piece's last weekend, and I am very happy with the results, of course I won't be able to say for sure until the tank is filled but it looks great. Now I have to do the top trim....
