ok to put heater in sump???

  • ok to put heater in sump???

    just picked up a tank and wet/dry set up... never used one of these before, is it ok to put the heater in the sump next to the return pump??? or better to leave it in the tank? how bout in the overflow? is that possible? thanks

    i like to put my heater in the wet dry never had any problems and it hides the heater

          Just try to make it so that the heater doesn't touch the sides or bottom. That way you'll have no worries and it will run more accurately as well.

              I have a heater in my sump and agree that it should not come in contact with the sides of the sump. The nice thing about having the heater in the sump is that I don't have to unplug it while doing water changes.

                Works just fine in the sump.

                Only things I have noticed that isn't ideal is....

                - temps in the sump differs from the tank slightly.
                - when filling the tank if water is cooler it will stay that way till you re start the return pump.


                Other then that its perfect! I have all of mine in the sump chamber and one of the main reasons I prefer wet/dry over all other filters.
