I have been using this stuff to dechlorinate bleached sponges and replacement water. directions said 4 oz per gal of distilled waterand 1 drop per gal to dechlorinate. so I made a gallon about 3 months ago. just filled up a 5 gal bucket of replacement water, added 6 drops of homemade dechlorinater and tested it for chlorine. this stuff did not work. I had tons of chlorine from the tap water. so I called my chemist friend. He said at that weak concentration the shelf life would be about 2 weeks. so from now on I will make it a lot stronger and only do 2 oz's at a time. if anybody wants a good chlorine test go to hach.com and get the this reagent. DPD Total chlorine Reagent cat. 21982-46. there is a test kit ModelCN-66 also, but you really do not need it. it will tell you exactly how much chlorine you have but I just want to know I don't have any. to use reagent add 5ml test water to a test tube. add reagent, swirl test tube to mix. wait 3 minutes and if any pink you have chlorine. if it's clear you are good to go.
