  • Fixing a Coralife light fixture?

Hey Boxers! My  2 yr old 30 inch 65 wtt fixture has been shutting off after 12 seconds or so. I replaced the bulb, cleaned the recepticle with WD-40 as there was corrosion on the old bulb pins. Still won't stay on. Help! Don't want my plants to die. Is there a way to fix it?

Make sure your ballast is still good.
Make sure the circuits are good to the switch, ballast, etc.
Make sure you are not tripping the GFCI

Motors usually have a temperature switch in the winding to shut them off before the heat damages the insulation and causes a fire.
Sounds like you have some sort of circuit breaker malfunction.
what do you have to do to restart the light ?
if it resets it self after a brief time it may be a temp switch in the ballast.
if you have to press a reset button it is more than likely a gfi switch.

He would have continued but at that moment my very obedient daughter who was listening leaned over to me and asked quite audibly in her shrill little four-year old girl voice, 'Mom, what is butt dust?'

First off, thanks for the replies guys. Checked the wall recepticle first, did a minor repair there, a wiggley ground wire. Still no good. plugged the unit into a diff outlet, still goes off after about 12 secs. If I turn it off for 30 secsonds, then turn it on, it comes on, but only for the little bit it was doing. Is this thing user servicable? Not according to the instructions, but have you fixed one before? Where would I find an electronic ballast for it?

You can mail order an replacement ballast. Replacing them is no simple task - but accomplishable- from what I've been told.

Is this what you are looking for?

Dorothy : How can you talk if you haven't got a brain?
Scarecrow: I don't know... But some people without brains do an awful lot of talking... don't they?
Dorothy: Yes, I guess you're right.

Looks like they don't carry the one for the single light. Guess I'll take it apart and see what I can find out, at this point, nothing to lose.

You say it comes on after letting it sit?
