To make a long story short our bedroom is short on space so we're considering using the dresser as a tank stand. It's 62" by 18" so it should be able to accomodate up to a 100g. I know it's plenty sturdy. I was wondering if anyone else has tried this and if they've had any experiences positive or negative.

Re: Dresser as a tank stand?
You saw my 55+ on the couch table.'Dear Lord,' the minister began, with arms extended toward heaven and a rapturous look on his upturned face. 'Without you, we are but dust ...'
He would have continued but at that moment my very obedient daughter who was listening leaned over to me and asked quite audibly in her shrill little four-year old girl voice, 'Mom, what is butt dust?'

Re: Dresser as a tank stand?
I used a 36" dresser as a stand for a 42 gallon hex.
IT was fine...I just decided that the sound of running water in my bedroom wasn't the brightest idea I had had.
However..the solid wood dresser was the perfect stand.5.5 fw fluval chi - class N top bar snake chested endlers/ red marble bn/ 4 stripe RCS/ pumpkin shrimp

Re: Dresser as a tank stand?
Our dresser is solid wood :) And it's old and HEAVY!
Pretty much for us if we want a tank bigger than 29g it has to be in the bedroom. Unfortunately there's just no other place for it. I don't mind though. I like the sound of running water and it will make the bedroom even more peaceful.Karen

Re: Dresser as a tank stand?
The closer the edge of the tank comes to the edge of the furniture , the better it will be. I would be reluctant ,for example, to put a 20gal in the center of a 48" long piece of furniture.
Particle board (or OSB) has been used for most furniture for 50+ yr; it is heavy but not strong.
One thing I have done is to put 1" oak or plywood on the furniture for added strength/stiffness; this doesen't necessarily look bad.
