  • Suggestions for prefilter sponge

I need a suggestion for what to use as a prefilter sponge on my Eheim 2217.

i use the blue/white filter stuff available at any lfs... just cut it up into round or square patches and shove about 3-4 layers in the bottom of the canister... very affordable, and a sheet would last you a while. did you lose the black sponge that came with it? i use the black sponge, then the blue stuff, then the bio media, then a sheet of blue stuff, then carbon, then more blue stuff... its good for separating different media into layers...

if you mean a prefilter to go onto the strainer in the tank, a sponge from a powerhead works great

You can use those block sponges that are available city pets or other LFS. Just cut it to the size your happy with and cut a slit into the center and slide it over your intake tube strainer.

Truth is the cement that holds the bricks and stones of a sane and civilized society together. Remove the former and the latter will crumble.

Pretty much what I did. I grabbed some of the foam squares for the Aquaclears and used those.

Stopped by City Pets and got the foam. Thanks for the suggestion!
