Anytime, you have one on the bottom just sitting there, if you cannot get him revitalized within 1/2 day with a 50% waterchange, and added aeroation then immediately start treating the tank with CLOUT or other Bloat cure treatment.

With 5 dead within 12 hours after a waterchange, check your chlorine level, ammonia level, and Nitirite.

It has happen to people that they forget to treat their water. You also need to check that your temperature is good.

Typically gasping at the surface is Nitirite, Ammonia is typical sit at bottom. Temperature shock can also sends them either top or bottom depedning if hot or cold.

I would immediately perform 50-75% waterchange, and treat with your water treatment as if you changed 100% of the water. Replace with water that is within reasonable temperature and pH within 0.5 of existing. If needed add buffers to bring it higher.

Limstone Rocks will not buffer your water, you will not get carbonate leached out of Holey Rock fast enought to buffer unless your roasting it at high temperature and extremely low 4 ph or something. Your fish would be dead long time before that.

I would not have used such a harsh med without even attempting the water change with good water.

Sudden death doesn't happen to fish with bloat or any bacterial disease Clout is meant to attack from my knowledge.

Did you try the water change before adding the Clout?

IMO, if it was a water issue adding the Clout would have just contributed to the slurry of contents attacking their will to live.

You should do another water change. Please make sure that you dont used heated water as you might have some heavy metal in the water heater (unless you know its less than 3 yrs old) -- Double dose prime / amquel. It will not hurt the fish, it will just remove that much more ammonia if its present in the water, and if it does remove 100% of the ammonia it will continue removing it as the fish produce it. I would rather be safe than sorry about your fish. I am really sorry to hear of your loss.

You know Jesper.... I have read a few times where over dosing did cause problems.

Double dose prime is not going to cause problems.

If you let them swim in it then that will cause problems.

Hmm.. looking at the chemistry of Amquel, I can understand going WAY overboard, but doing a 150-200% of your water amount should not be a big problem -- I am suggesting this as I want to make sure that there is not a high amount of ammonia in the water from the water having sat to long in the water tower allowing the chloramine to start breaking down. When it breaks down chloramine becomes chlorine and ammonia, which for those of you who have smelled water and say to yourself, man I am positive this has a smell of ammonia, this is why.. the water has been sitting in the water tower for to long, and the chloramine is breaking down. Ammonia is more difficult to remove than chlorine, which is why I am making the suggestion.

I have also heard of several cases where prime was not enough to treat the tap water and it killed tropheus.....

Where is your water source coming from?
It hasn't been hot enough to have hot tap water for weeks.

This is why having a carbon filter like yours and fshfrk is by far the best way to go. One of these days I am going to get John to assist me making me one... I just one that is so big I dont have worry about the speed I crank up the water pressure to.. it will still catch it all :) :) :)
