epsom salt dosage

A large tablespoon per 10 gallon is what I use.

I forgot to say one thing. Put the salt in a pitcher, put water from the tank in the pitcher. Pour all the salt you are going to mix into the tank into the pitcher. Then blend the water outside. When you pour it into the tank, make sure that you put it somewhere where the water has a lot of movement so you dont create a zone in the tank where there is a higher salt concentration.

+1 I also use 1 for every 5 gallons. never had any problems

i just tried 1 tbs per 10... lets see what happens... what can i expect guys? and how long do i treat before doing a water change??

You can do water change whenever just make sure you only replace salts for the amount of water replaced since salt does not evaporate.

To stimilate appetite add water circulation to keep the fish in movement and you can have it on a timer if you don't want it on all day.

Just curious. Does the fish have to be sick to use this treatment? Can you use it periodically as a sort of preventative/digestive cleanser? Like maybe once every couple months or so?

I do it just to help the fish digest. I add every time i do a water change.(once a week)i also fast em for that day aswell.

Two different things...

Sodium chloride and magnesium sulfate do different things.

Hi. What are the salts used for? I use aquarium salt, but have never tried Epsom salt. Not even sure what I use salt for....long time ago when I first started with fish, the pet store told me to use it to keep them healthy? Since I'm one of those types of people that follow instructions religiously, I've always done it but don't understand it.

regular aquarium salt basically "ionizes" the water... humans need salt for the same reasons.... thats why gatorade advertises "electrolytes"- salt... salt helps the nervous, cardio, digestive, and respiratory functions... too much salt is bad, just like in our bodies, just enough is great... ive kept fish without salt for years, they didnt complain... once i started using salt in my tanks, ive noticed better colors, fewer problems/diseases, and more active fish.

epsom on the other hand, is being used as a treatment... i was told its supposed to kinda colon cleanse fish, and stimulate the appetite... it does help with the gut flushing, but my fish still isnt eating... how it works, anyone know?
