I think this is a case of the old fashion fish whooping but I wanted to make sure as it happened pretty fast and he is one of the oldest of the group so I dont know why the attacks would just now start. I know the pics arent the best took them with my phone as I cant find my other camera.

yea he jus got a good ol azz whoopin someone else in the tank balls dropped and got pissed at him how many other fish are in there with him?

He has been acting different lately and not eating much and being skittish. Which would lead me to believe the attacks but no visible signs of it until last night when I saw light grayish white spots that look a lot like bites. I QT'd him and put good helping of aquarium salt and Melafix and airstone. Any ideas?Comment

I have 6 discus in the tank the thing is everyone picks on everyone so I really dont know who did it there are two that leads the attacks but they attack each other as well. Weird thing is both are smaller than he is.Comment

you may lose that one. but if you move that one away. the two aggressive will pick another one. what made the discus so aggressive? they're not aggressive fish. right? you should check your water..make sure everything is alright.Comment

I've seen this before on a discus that wasn't get picked on. He was given to me after being diagnosed with IPs to see if I could get him well. He was just too sick and didn't make it, but I remember those odd white spots. Eventually he started head-standing, and wouldn't eat. His stomach started swelling. If you are going to treat him, I would focus on IPs as the culprit. Good luck! BTW - Is he eating?Our Fishhouse

He eats every once in a while never a lot. He never had any signs of disease. I can tell you discus like other fish are territorial my Leopard and Cobalt are the most competitive. Anyways the guy didnt make it through the night.Last edited by Darbex; 05-17-2009, 10:39 AM.Comment

So I just noticed today may not be related but I saw one of my o-cats on the side of one of my discus and I am beginning to worry that maybe that could have been the cause of what happened. What do you all think? I have never seen an o-cat do that and things that I read and was told was that they shouldnt only SAEs might do it.Comment

if you think he might be the culpret, quarantine the cat and see if anyone else shows up with the same thing. also, very slowly, lower the temp a bit to reduce aggression just for a bit.140 New World Cichlids

yea, i'd just say if you see him doing it again, then try to nab him. lowering your temp (not a lot as discus wig out i'm told) should slow them (cats) down too. also, try feeding the cats a bit more, maybe more protein? so they don't have a reason to do that.
doesn't sound like the cats are the problem, sounds like the IP might be. i'd look into what someone does for that, and if you see anyone else with signs of it, try treating for that.
course...he could just be older and fickle...i've unfortunately had that happen a couple times.140 New World Cichlids
