ok...just got home from work and now I will attempt to answer all the questions. I lost a total of 7 fish. the colony had about 32 I think. the problem is that 6 of them were females. And Im sad to say that all of my very first fry have died. I moved the Dubs into my 125gallon moliro tank. All the moliro are on one side of the tank, and all the dubs are on the other side. nobody is hiding...they are just staying on their sides. Is it true that I should have used double the amount of water conditioner, I mean I have been beating myself up all day long thinking that I did something stupid. If it was that...then I would have never known to be precautious so it would have had to happen at some point or another. I plan on waiting till morning to do another water change on the 110 gallon tank. I will go buy a test kit and then if everything is good, move them back to their home.250gallon-Wild Angels, community

I got these Dubs from CichlidFan and he said that they had never spit for him. I was determined to get them to spit for me...and after 3months and several swallowed eggs...I finally got them to spit and then this happens. My question is, with all the death in the colony, and the reduced number of females I now have, will it be a long time before they breed again?250gallon-Wild Angels, community

Newb, what was different about this water change from all the previous water changes since you got them three months ago?
Have you always just used the NovAqua or was this the first time?Experiencing an aquatic renaissance!

In this hobby there is a learning curve. You just made a big step forward. You can rebuild that colony easy. But you will be very happy running your water through a carbon filter and take out the possibility for this to happen again. If you need any help call me.200

Before I obtain my carbon bottle I used to watch the weather reports prior to waterchanges. The last time I did a water change without a cb...I almost lost all my fish. They did the same as yours just float to the bottom gasping for air. I drain the tank to nothing and refill. Added triple the amount and all was well.
I checked the weather report shortly afterward and it was a 50% chance the day before and 40% the day after...of course it didnt rain neither day

k so since i totaly just caught up on all of this, i am so totally sorry about your loss man. I think everyone in this hobby has been through a "learning curve" mistake at least once. If it is any consolation, I most likely would have made the mistake, and i do not consider myself a novice at water changes. It's the natural assumption that conditioner is conditioner.
Having said this, I'm more than thrilled with my choice to switch to prime. Yes, its a little more, but it last for freaking ever! in the long run, i'm much happier with it.
BWT...I'll keep an eye out for more Dubs. I know T&T fish and reptile on HW 6 near bellair has some.140 New World Cichlids
