I recommend purchasing prime by the gallon. You all might want to consider a group buy if you do it online unless you have an LFS that will offer it at online pricing.

I dont know about all of the other posts on this thread but i do know that I learned my lesson in regards to water changes. I have changed water for years with no real problems but then I did one on my discus tank and lost 2/3 of the population. Now I double dose with Prime every time and some times 3x if it is about to or is raining. Rather waste money and feel safe then try to cut costs and worry if I did enough.

so far, no problems at all. I believe my brother is gonna buy all my Moliro end of this week, so there wont be a problem with overcrowding anymore.

Not sure if this helps but...recently did a water change on one my tanks and used a different product...I don't remember the name...and my fish did the same thing as yours NewB. After reading the bottle more closely it said it should be used on tanks with alot of aeration. Man...I dropped in 3 large bubble blue rock thingys and ran a large air pump to them. I saw a huge difference within 30 minutes. I left them on for about 6 hours and turned them off...no more issues.

Fish losses x1. They were so stressed out and I was throwing a fit...

As an after thought, I didn't turn off the filters before refilling the tank...could have been a combination of problems.

This brings up something I was wondering

Can water conditioners mixed with other water conditioners turn toxic ?

I wonder if anyone would know that?

I would say it should by possible, because both products most likely uses the same ingredients.. but I would check the bottle of both products and see what they use to detoxify the water, and if the two are not the same, I would not use it.
Now on the other hand, honestly, Prime of Amquel+ I would use one or the other. I would simply not use anything else. Why take the chance with my fish.. They are simply to important to me to waste any other product on them.

Yeah jesper but there will be a time that you run out and have no other options in an emergency situation but to use something different

Its not if its going to happen , its when is it going to happen

I personally like to use api water conditioner and ran out half way threw a water change. And then I used some prime and my fish did not act right for some time matter of fact that's when I lost one of my bolengerchromis

I would say if it happened again to you (or to anyone else for the first time) to just re-drain the water, and then fill with just one conditioner.

UPDATE: well, I put the Dubs back into their original home about 45 minutes ago. Since the big mishap, I have done 3 50% water changes and then had the tank run for a whole day with just a Tret in there. He made it out fine, so the Dubs went back in as well. So far everyone is happy again, I have had two different "shake-n-bake" rounds happen so far. I really want to find about 4-5 adult females to add back in, but I doubt anyone will sell just females.
