Odd ick behavior....

I had around 60 fry in my 75....roughly 30 each of Red Zebras and Yellow Labs. With the warm weather recently I've been doing alot of fishing and haven't paid much attention to my fish other than their feeding. When one day I noticed 3 dead yellow labs. Upon closer inspection I saw that a majority of my yellow labs had ick. Some in the early stages and others pretty advanced. But not one of the red zebras had any indication of having ick. I started treatment immediatly, but ended up losing every single yellow lab....but not one of the RZ's so much as got one bump.

Any idea's what happened....or how it happened?

When Elvis got Ich none of the other fish in the same tank showed any signs of it. I was told that it was because Elvis was stressed. Don't know if that has anything to do with your situation.

Ick affects different types fish very differently. Some who are not stressed are able to resist the parasite while others will succumb regardless of stress level. Other factors include the "strain" of ick. Ick is ick, but you can come across different types of ick that can be more resistant to treatments or unable to parasitize certain types of fish. There have been times where only one fish in my tank is suffering versus every fish is infected and they all perish. It is very possible one yellow lab got stressed and slowly infected the others. Sorry for your loss.

How do you tell the difference between Ick and Velvet? I just pulled a discus out of the wifes tank and it had little white spots all over he has been stressed lately with the other discus chasing him around. I have not had either so I dont know how to tell. I pulled him out and QT him and doused with API Velvet treatment since that is what I had in the cabinet. I want to treat the tank he came from but wanted to be more sure on the proper treatment.
