geoff when i fully read your post you answered my question. a half dose in 12 hour interval is less stressful on the fish. but i keep a very close eye on my fish so epsom salts does the job for me. i put a full dose of es every 3rd water change that pretty much keeps those types of infections out of my tanks.my mini me!

I dose epsom salt with every water change. I don't see it as a cure but rather a preventative medication.
It's so cheap......compared to how much our fishes be costin.
Rude, Check your PM about another issue.I ate my fish that died.

I think I may be having a bloat problem myself...not sure though. I do water changes every 4 days and change about 70% of the water. I only feed 3x per day and only feed 1tsp per feeding. this is only happening to my WC Katoto. I have noticed at first just 2 of them werent eating and turning dark in color, I thought they were just being dominated by the other fish. then ask the week went on I now have about 5 all doing this. they stay away from the rest of the colony and wont eat. I have just done a 70%Water change and have filled it up again. I just added epsom salt to the tank and I am going to add CLOUT to the tank. should I half dose or full dose? After I dose today, should I water change tomorrow?250gallon-Wild Angels, community

Newb,
Remove any carbon filtration from your tank. Trophs are tough fish, use full dose.
1. 1.5 tablespoons of Epsom salt per 10g of water.
2. Clout at full strength. Do NOT NOT NOT move your sick fish. They are already Stressed to HELL AND BACK and it will harm your fish more than help them. You want to get everyone going because once one fish has it, the protozoan will multiply quick and will get into all the fish. You want to cure the whole tank.
3. Water changes every 48 hours.
Repeat step 1 & 2.
Keep this going for 6-8 days -- check your fish.
DO NOT FEED YOUR FISH AT ALL WHILE YOU ARE DOING THIS.. YOU WILL JUST HARM THEM MORE
Once they are healthy again they will come to the top of the water and to you for food when you are in the room. Check your fish, are they all for the most part eating the algae in the rocks ? Once they are back in form again, you can start feeding them, once a day, for a week, then up it to 2 times a day and then 3 times like used to have it.
Keep smiling :)
Jesper

The higher your pH the less likely CLOUT will stain silicone. At Higher pH the malachite green component will be much less likely to stain silicone.
The Bloat Treatment I use is FULL DOSE CLOUT just like it says on the bottle. Treat for 5 full days no matter what, and continue to treat until ALL FISH ARE EATING.
Start the treatment with a 50-75% waterchange and do a deep gravel vaccum if you have substrate. Then every 3rd day 50-75% waterchange, but do not deep gravel vaccum.
YOU MUST FEED your fish atleast once a day so that you know if the fish is getting better. Lots of people feed medicated fish food to the uninfected fish. You have to keep feeding so that you know your making progress. I would feed a medicated fish food if you have it. If not continue with your regular food, but only once a day.
Once all the fish are eating, stop the CLOUT treatment and perform 50-75% waterchange and run charcoal in your filter for atleast a week. Then go back to normal waterchange routine, remove charcoal.Last edited by geoff_tropheus; 06-25-2009, 09:55 PM.380G For Sale $3000 Acrylic tank & stand

The best buy on clout is to get the POND version where 1 tablet treats 100 gallons.
If not, get the 100count bottle where 1 tablet treats 10 gallons.
I always mail order mine from either Dr.Foster And Smith, or Jehmco380G For Sale $3000 Acrylic tank & stand

Newb,
Do as jesper as suggested. But you should really look into the cause of why the got the blout.
That's a lot of water change to be doing. What is your current filter system like on that tank? Still no carbon filter?I ate my fish that died.
