Wtf happened

I just got home to 4 tanks of dead fish.

I lost
12 4-7" Kigoma Frontosa,
11 4"+ Clown Loaches
Several Hundred 1" Calvus
12 Bemba Flames
Tons of Albino Bristlenose,
5 Wild White Calvus
several large black calvus

I havent done any water changes in the last 3-4 days, they all died sometime between this morning 9am and now.

Do you live anywhere near fshfrk? He called me this morning about power being out at his house. Possibly and outtage in your area?

Naw, he lives in Willis. Possibly a power outage, but that's surprising it would wipe out all of those fish in such a short amount of time (looks to be less than 4 hours). Exterminator is an interesting suggestion.....

Brown, find anything else out??

Man this really bites.

Would seem to have to be a power related issue. Have you checked all filters, heaters and other support equipment?

what type of filtration are you running? HOB, wet dry etc? i just had this happen to me with my african tank. the syphon on my overflow broke, and i had one fish die, which turned into 2 then 4 and dominoed from there. the only thing i can think is that powerfailure might kill 1 or 2, or 1 big one in each tank, but when they die they release nitrites and ammonia, so i would take a reading off those tanks. look at your nitrites. thats the only thing i can think of that would work that fast.

that or a well meaning appartmnt exterminator. but check your readings and your temp.

Being this all happened in 4 hours.. There is only one way for this have happened... Something in the air got introduced into the water. I am thinking pest control or something likely becoming the culprit. Even if power goes out for something less than 4 hours, you are not going to have that high of a mortality rate in such a short time.
Talk to apartment management to see if there was a power failure.
Check and see if they extermination services in today

I live in a house. There couldnt have been a power outtage as my pc was still on the same pages I had up this morning.

Filters are all running fine. When Ike hit the tanks went without power for 24 hours no losses, then were run off an invertor for 12 hours on 12 hours off.

I have tanks right next to these tanks and theyre fine, no deaths.

That sucks. Could your son have dumped something in those tanks? Anyone else home while you were gone? temp? sabotage? conspiracy amongst the fishes?

one time my wife decided she was going to clean the glass on my tanks for me while I was at work (sweet huh?), well, she made the mistake of spraying the cleaner onto the glass instead of onto the rag. I lost many fish that day from different tanks. could be one possibility.

cleaner, chlorine, something in the water that wasn't originally there. are these all run off the same filter? or linked in any way? could a foreign contaminant of any kind gotten in. check the temp. did the heater fry them?
