    Please help me guys,

My friend has a red betta at her place. it is not keeping well for past few days. i think it has fin rot
Symptoms: initially all fins were clumped together, thn some whithering was observed, today i saw some white patches on the body.
she is treating him with betta flix which has melaleuca as an active agent.
Dose: 70 drops/gallon/day (its a small fish bowl of 1 gallon) for past 5 days.
    No significant improvement was observed.

The fish is swimming with jerks and seems to be in more distress now.

    Please suggest a medication asap...thanks

I'd pm our resident betta expert...phis phreak.....and see what he says...

Truth is the cement that holds the bricks and stones of a sane and civilized society together. Remove the former and the latter will crumble.

Overdoseing with melafix can be fatal as it is basicaly Tea Tree Oil.
If you use it, follow their directions fully and do waterchanges between treatments.

When you do water changes use prime and add salt 1/2 tsp per gal
(generic brands, sometimes cut the salt with corn starch which makes the water cloudy)

      medication -- best used for
      ---------------------------------
      tetracyclin (antibiotic) -- bacterial infections
kanamycin (antibiotic) -- serious bacterial infection
Ampicillin (antibiotic)-- pop-eye and gram positive serious infections also effective on some gram negative bacteria
maracin (anti fungal and antibiotic) -- mild infections such as slight fin rots, but not very effective for serious stuff.
jungle fungus eliminator (anti fungal) -- fungus infections
Life-Bearer (by Aquarium Products) -- velvet, ick, external parasites
Flubendazole -- Hexamita, and protozoan (internal) parasites

'Dear Lord,' the minister began, with arms extended toward heaven and a rapturous look on his upturned face. 'Without you, we are but dust ...'
He would have continued but at that moment my very obedient daughter who was listening leaned over to me and asked quite audibly in her shrill little four-year old girl voice, 'Mom, what is butt dust?'

70 drops seems like quite a bit...

I suggest water changes. Daily water changes of about 50%.

Can you tell us a bit more about the history of her betta?
        "Millennium hand and shrimp!"

          hi

well the bottle has instructions: add 18 drops/litre everyday for 7 days and then change the water..
Even i found that weird but it says so..
anyways she has got the fish few days back around 2 weeks ago, it did well in first week but since last 5-6 days it is not keeping well.
