NO but Loaches because they are scaleless do not do well against parasites. if it wasnt because you are clear across town I would bring you the supply I have.. its one of the few medications that for sure keep always in my house.. ICK can hit any time and specially with scaleless fish you have to ready to fight it fast.. this is why I am telling to go tomorrow as soon as possible to Petco/Petsmart and get the medication so you can start treating quick.

I think they will be ok. Just get the temp up if you can to start.

Only thing is in that time it may spread a bit. Ive seen fish that have it pretty bad get better.

Raising the temp will make the ICK more active understand this. ICK is EASIEST killed while in the free floating stage. When they are bored into the body of the host they haev a white cap over them (this is what you see). Raising the temp gets ICK faster free floating and easier killed.. this is why when you raise the temp.. have meds in the water that kills them as soon as they leave the host and dont get a chance to lay their eggs and spawn more.

I suggested raising the temperature because people have treated ich by solely doing this and adding no salts or meds. At 88 degrees the ich cannot reproduce and will die off..

I would still combine it with meds, but be sure to add a powerhead or air pump for extra O2

Mark - do a couple searches on this forum and read the many threads we have had in the past about ich. First things first, don't panic. It's common, and it's probably happened to everybody. :) Read all that you can, there's a lot of info out there on ich. There's also a lot of misinformation. Just breathe, and read, and trust HFB! :)

Also, in the future, use a QT before adding any new fish to an established tank. Are there any new residents in this tank?

As Jesper pointed out, ich is a parisite and is all through your tank by now so treat the whole tank. As also stated, raising the temp speeds up the life-cycle of the parisite and treatments are more able to attack the only vulnerable stage of the critter; the free-swimming stage.

Personally, I never use prepared ich meds. The last time I had an outbreak in the 55 several years ago, I raissed the temp to88 and used 1 tbsp per gallon of table salt for three weeks. The tank contained both scaled and scaleless fish.

Whatever method you use to get rid of ich, treat the tank for at least two weeks. Just because you don't see the imbedded "salt-grains" on the fish after three days, doesn't mean all of it has been killed. I, again, treated for three weeks and it was gone!

my latest additions before the ich showed up was a geo i picked up from another member on the site and a geo i bought from fish ranch II in the same day....before those two fish added it was about a week or two since i added fish ....the next day i saw ich on my loaches.....do you think it was the fish fromn fish ranch II or the person i picked it up from that gave my tank ich?

Really no way to tell how it got in the tank...and really, that's water under the bridge. In the future, as suggested, you really should quarantine all new arrivals, regardless of where you got them, for at least 30 days. If, during the QT period a disease presents itself, treat it until gone, then reset the thirty day clock back to day 1. This insures you don't accidentally introduce disease into the tank again.
