To make a very long story short, I have a panda Cory that was attacked by another fish in the tank, and that fish ate his eyes. (yes both). It happened overnight, and when I went to check on the fish in the morning, to feed them, he was sitting on the bottom like that. I honestly didn't think he would survive, but I put him in a 10 gallon hospital tank with a half dose of melafix, because i couldn't tell if cory's have scales. so just to be careful...half dosed for 6 days.
He is still alive. this was 3 weeks ago. he's eating, swimming, but completely blind. he appears to have something white like scales growing on his back near his dorsal, looks like a burn thats peeling. his fins are growing back. He has balance issues and frequently finds a quiet spot on the bottom and doesn't move. when moving near the filter current, he swayes, alot.
Herein lies my dilemma. My questions are 1.) is he in pain? 2.) Is it humane to even let him live? 3.) what do i do with him? I know they can't grow back eyes or anything, but is it safe to put him in with like community fish? tetras and mollys? should I be treating him with anything? the area around his eye sockets is reddened, so i'm worried about him getting infections. I just don't know.
Originally he and 2 other panda cory's were in my 125 (heavily rockworked with plants, pots and rocks) but there are cichlids in there, and i'm too scared to put him back now. which is what gets me, the others are completely fine! not a nip at them! just him!
anyhoo, please give me your best advice as to what to do with lucky. (since he's lucky to be alive)
